'Freya’ is a 27 foot
double ended Norwegian motor boat built in 1971.
She needs a lot of work to
save her, but the repairs are going well. Sheer
plank, beam shelf, beams and covering boards
have all been repaired back aft, and all is
ready for a new after deck to be laid.
There are four sections
of planking to be fitted below the waterline,
and four new transverse floors have been fitted.
The front and rear of the superstructure is
having a lot of repair, and a new coachroof will
be fitted.
Update April 2020
The
repairs to the after end of the boat are largely
complete now, just the new after deck planking
to be laid and caulked. The cabin front and
sides have all been repaired, and new corner
posts fitted. The cabin main bulkhead has had a
large repair section fitted, and a new coach
roof in 12mm marine ply, sheathed with glass
cloth and epoxy has been fitted. The repair
sections of hull planking below the waterline
have progressed, having sourced some green
Douglas fir, so that the planks can be steamed
successfully when fitting.
Update October 2020
After
the large programme of repair work carried out
over 2019/2020, Freya was re-launched without her
interior fit out, or engine, to see how the hull
would take up. She has been moved to a shallow
berth, do that we can keep an eye on her for a
few weeks
